Former Cairns Taipans and Brisbane Bullets NBL Assistant Coach to coach the Wolfpack Women for the next two seasons.
The Meneghello Industrial Group City of Joondalup Wolves are excited to announce the signing of Women’s Head Coach Mitchell Langford for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Mitchell has a wide range of coaching experience from the NBL, NBL1, QSL and Basketball Queensland State teams.
Mitchell has worked with an exciting list of elite players such as NBA player Taran Armstrong, Tyrell Harrison, Mia Lloyd and Abby Cubillo, just to name a few. Mitchell has also held the position of Basketball Development Manager at the Ipswich Basketball Association.
Although most recently coaching men in the NBL, Mitchell also has a proven track record coaching women. He has worked as the Lead Assistant Coach of the Southern Districts Spartans and Brisbane Capitals women in the NBL1 North. He was the Head Coach of the Brisbane Capitals women in the QSL and also led a QLD State women’s team to a 4th place finish at the Australian Junior National Championships.
In recent months Mitchell has been in contention for coaching positions with the Westchester Knicks and Indiana Pacers NBA G-League teams as well as with the Texas Tech Women’s program, however visa timelines meant he was unable to accept a position.
Wolves CEO Andrew Summerville was elated to announce the signing of our new women’s coach:
“Sometimes timing and a little bit of luck is all it takes to be the catalyst of major change. I have been talking to Mitchell for over a year now about one day joining the Wolfpack, however his G-League opportunities meant he couldn’t commit. Unfortunately for Mitchell, but fortunately for us, some visa timing issues meant Mitchell has now decided to stay in Australia and ultimately join the Pack.
This is huge for our NBL1 Women’s program and I cant wait to see what a new focus and passion Mitch will bring. We need to return our women’s program back to where it belongs as a contender every year and we think Mitchell is the right coach to do that. Mitchell’s focus on professionalism, culture and accountability really resonated with what we are looking for in this next phase of our program”.
On signing with the Wolves Mitchell had the following to say:
“I’m incredibly excited and honoured to lead the Women’s NBL1 program at the Joondalup Wolves. I bring a holistic, athlete-centred approach to the NBL1 program. My goal is to establish a professional, high-performance culture that reflects the standards and expectations of the Wolves, one that prioritises growth, accountability, and connection. A key focus will be creating an environment where players can learn elite habits, behaviours and standards. By aligning the team’s on-court systems with a strong off-court framework, we can empower our athletes to reach their potential, strengthen our pathways, and set a new benchmark for what it means to play for the Wolves”.
Mitchell will arrive in WA from QLD in the coming weeks and will commence his recruiting and program build immediately.
Welcome to the Pack Mitchell!
