The Joondalup Wolves are excited to announce the signing of international basketballer Maddie Sutton for the 2025 NBL1 West Season.
Maddie is a 6’0 tall forward from Champaign, Illinois. She has been signed to Thor AK in the Icelandic League since 2022, with her performances on the court helping promote the team to the top-tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna for the first time in 45 years.
Sutton put in a series of impressive performances for the team during December 2024, posting three straight triple-doubles. On December 3, in a game against Njardvik, Sutton finished with 18 points, 24 rebounds, and 17 assists.
Before signing with Thor AK, Sutton played college basketball for Tusculum University in Tennessee. During her senior year, Maddie was named Tusculum Athletics Female Athlete of the Year after averaging 17.3 points and 14.6 rebounds per game.
Maddie played 80 games for the Pioneers during her time with Tusculum, including 32 starts. From 2017 to 2021, she scored 440 career points, 437 rebounds, and 110 assists, contributing to the nine double-doubles she scored over her college career.
The Wolfpack welcomes Maddie to Arena Joondalup for the 2025 NBL1 West Season and can’t wait to see what she can produce upon completing the Icelandic-Bonus League.
On the signing, Women’s Head Coach Jesse Pence said, “We are pleased to add Maddie for the 2025 season. She stands out as a tireless worker and plays well with quality teammates. I look forward to the connection she will form with her teammates on and off the court as she helps us contend in 2025.”
When asked how running with the Pack for the 2025 season feels, Maddie said, “I’m very excited to join Joondalup this season and to experience Australian basketball culture. Australia is a phenomenal country with great basketball and a unique culture. It is a dream opportunity for me to take on.
The fans can always expect me to leave it on the floor every game. You will always see energy, rebounds, and high-calibre defence from me; the rest will flow as the game comes.
I’m excited to join the team and learn the systems to be an asset to my new teammates and their games. The Wolves are a strong team, and I hope to be a helpful addition to their roster!”
