Former Cairns Taipans and Brisbane Bullets NBL Assistant Coach joins the WBA.
The Wanneroo Basketball Association is excited to announce the signing of Performance & Pathways Coordinator Mitchell Langford. Mitchell has a wide range of coaching experience from the NBL, NBL1, QSL and Basketball Queensland State teams. Mitchell has also held the position of Basketball Development Manager at the Ipswich Basketball Association.
Mitchell has worked with an exciting list of elite players such as NBA player Taran Armstrong, Tyrell Harrison, Mia Lloyd and Abby Cubillo, just to name a few.
The Performance & Pathways Coordinator role replaces the previous Coaching Coordinator position. This new title aligns to a renewed focus on player and coach education and development at the domestic level and strengthening the pathways to WABL and above for players and coaches. Mitchell will also be responsible for a complete review and overhaul of our schools partnerships and programs under the WBA banner.
Wolves CEO Andrew Summerville had this to say on the appointment of Langford:
“Its actually really exciting to have someone who is genuinely passionate about player and coach education working in this space. Mitchell has a real desire to improve players and coaches of any level and is a pure teacher of the game. Often coaches think working with domestic players is beneath them, however Mitchell has demonstrated that he just loves seeing players grow and is willing to work with players of any level at any time. He just wants to see all players get better.
I would strongly argue that there wouldn’t be many associations in Australia and probably none in WA that have two former NBL coaches working in their player development space. With Lucas Allen and now Mitchell we have an incredibly strong coaching staff in charge of the development of our players and coaches. Our association has come a long way in the last 4 or 5 years, but with the calibre of people we now have working in this space, I expect it to go to an elite level”
On joining the WBA, Mitchell had the following to say:
“I’m passionate about developing coaches and athletes at every level — from domestic to WABL to senior pathways — helping them build confidence, understanding, and a genuine love for the game. Growth doesn’t just happen at the top; it starts with a strong foundation built through consistent teaching, shared learning, and a connected community. My focus is on creating an environment where coaches feel supported and empowered to grow, because when coaches develop, players thrive. By investing in both the people who teach the game and those who play it, we build a stronger, more sustainable program that represents the values and standards of Wanneroo Basketball.”.
Mitchell will be relocating from Queensland in the coming weeks and will be in Perth for the second part of our WABL trials.
