The Joondalup Wolves wish to advise that NBL1 Women’s Head Coach Jesse Pence and the club have mutually agreed to part ways.
After a difficult two seasons it was determined it was in the best interests of both parties to seek a new direction. Jesse became the Head Coach of the Women’s program in 2024 after previously serving two seasons as Assistant Coach to the Men’s team under David Morrell.
The decision coincides with the expiry of Jesse’s temporary visa in a few months, and the end of his fixed term contract with the club.
“I would like to thank Jesse for his commitment and efforts with our women’s program over the past two seasons. Unfortunately during this time we haven’t been able to deliver the high standards we expect from our NBL1 teams and after discussing the future of the program with Jesse we decided a change was needed. I acknowledge that Jesse managed a difficult time the last two years with 2024 suffering an unprecedented amount of injuries and 2025 impacted by some late player arrivals due to circumstances outside of our control. However, ultimately it was determined that the program needed a new direction.
I would personally like to thank Jesse for everything he has done with our NBL1 programs over the last four years. These decisions are never easy, but Jesse has been extremely professional and understanding. I wish him well for the future” said WBA CEO Andrew Summerville.
Jesse Pence had this to say about his time at the Wolves:
“There’s never a good time, but sometimes it is time. Ultimately, after discussing various scenarios to stay in Green, the Joondalup Wolves and I have come to the decision that its best for both parties to move in other directions. With that, I am hopeful and expect that the Wolfpack Women return to glory in the NBL1 West in 2026. I am grateful to the Wolves for the impact that they have had on my coaching over the last 4 years and I will look back, fond and proud at the impacts that I have been able to make with various players and families. I am looking forward to continuing to grow and develop into a better coach, challenge by challenge, day by day, and season by season.
With that, I’d also like to thank David Morrell for our coaching relationship over many seasons and continents. I am very proud of how our club’s juniors have progressed in his tenure.
I’d also like to thank Andrew Summerville our CEO for believing in me and trusting in me over that past 4 years. Additionally the support of President Ryan Hunter and the Board was invaluable in my time with the Wanneroo Basketball Association”.
The Wolfpack would like to thank Jesse and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
The club will commence its search for a new NBL1 Women’s Head Coach immediately.
