WABL Recap – Round 11!

Wolfpack WABL teams played their round 11 games this weekend. As a collective, Wolves teams had a terrific 28-9 record, a .757 win rate, a new highest mark for the season.

The U12 Champs Girls had a great win against Hills, and played especially well in the 2nd half, outscoring their opponent in the final 16 minute by a score of 35-23 en route to a 63-48 victory! Our U12-2 Girls Green faced off with the U12-3 Girls White in an all-Wolves clash. The U12 Green prevailed in large part to a 18-4 2nd quarter. Lily Kalbermatten showed her ability to make well-balanced jumpshots while each of Maggie Martin, Siena Bujaroski and Callia Au each had double figure points for Green. Ruby Chadd was exceptional for White including some nice drives to the basket.  While The U12-4 Girls won decisively down in Mandurah 45-19. Allegra Bland had 15 big points to lead all scorers.

The U14 Champs Girls were down just 4 points heading to the 4th quarter but were defeated at Cockburn 36-54.  The U14-2 Girls jumped out to a 10-2 lead against a quality Willetton side. They were able to maintain the initial margin, coming out victorious 53-41. The U14-3 Girls took the long trip down to Bunbury and turned a 6-4 first quarter lead into a decisive 60-25 win. They came out firing in the 2nd quarter, able to outscore their opponent 20-10 in that frame and managed to win each of the 3rd and 4th quarter by 10+ as well. The U14-4 Girls protected homecourt with a 52-35 victory. They were able to hold their Cockburn opponent to just 4 points in the 2nd quarter and just 2 points in the 4th quarter on their way to the winner’s circle.

The U16 Champs Girls put a strong performance together at the Lightning of Lakeside, succeeding 73-45. The U16 Girls Green went on the road to Eagles and came away with a decisive 59-48 victory. There are still some challenges that await this 1-loss, ladder leading Wolves team. The U16 Girls White came out with a point to prove, winning the 1st quarter 32-8 on their way to a 75-55 victory. What a tremendous run to start a game from a talented team! The U16-4 Girls had a challenge in the ladder-leading Slammers 3s. After trailing by 9 to finish the 1st quarter, we were able to keep in touch heading towards halftime down the same 9 points. Unfortunately, the 2nd half did not go our way, with a 63-91 loss.

The U18-4 Women lost at the hands of East Perth 3s by a score of 46-56. Abbie Bowerman, Anyang Manyang, and Ella O’Shea each had 8+ points. The U18-3 Women had a tough test in the Eastern Suns. It was a back-and-forth contest in which the Wolves were able to make critical plays at critical times to come away with the 67-63 win. The U18-2 Women had a decisive 82-58 victory at Lakeside. Lucy Corden and Layla Montgomerie splashed 4 and 2 triples respectively, while Sara Davis added 22 points. The U18 Champs Women fought hard but lost to their undefeated counterpart, 54-89.

The U21 Champs Women defeated the Eastern Suns to the tune of 86-56. Jorja Montgomerie knocked down 2 triples, while Hannah Mortimer cashed in 5 triples herself. Janah Jabado had 21 points to spearhead the Wolves attack as well.

The D-League Women took down the Willetton Tigers 83-67 behind a strong collective effort. With the win, the Wolfpack solidify their 3rd place position on the ladder, with just 1 game remaining in the regular season.

The U12 Boys had a 4-0 weekend, but it was anything but easy. The U12 Champs were taken to overtime by a quality Cockburn Cougars squad. Flynn Howe made a triple to send the game to overtime. In overtime, Kenzo Deng scored all 7 of the Wolves points including knocking down the decisive free throw as the Wolves secured the victory! The U12-2 Boys defeated the Hills Raiders handily with a final score of 72-29. A true testament of this team’s ability is how they start each game locked in and have seemingly no lapses over the course of the 32 minutes. Well done! Midway through the 2nd quarter the U12-3 Boys were leading just 28-26 before they erupted to end the half with a 40-28 lead. The previously undefeated, top of the ladder Willetton Tigers 2s were able to get the game to within 5 pts during the 4th quarter but the Wolfpack pulled way and came away with the 71-57 win. The U12-4 Boys were up against a Magic 3s team and found themselves trailing by 6 entering the 3rd quarter. The Wolves scored the first 9 points of the 2nd half. The 4th quarter was played with each team exchanging narrow leads with each other and it would be the Wolves that prevailed 58-55 by the final buzzer.

The U14 Champs Boys took their first loss of the season at the hands of the Lakeside Lightning, 59-61. The Wolfpack will look to bounce back on the 27th July against the Mandurah Magic at Home.       The U14-2 Boys decimated the Willetton Tigers 2s 95-71. While the Wolfpack guards certainly played their part, the frontcourt duo of Harvey Hazell and Jack Bisland combined for 43 points in the contest. The U14-3 Boys had their 5-game winning streak snapped by the Eagles 2s, 52-76. The U14-4 Boys played as calm and poised of a game as you are likely to see. They prevailed 45-41 and never lost heart, always stayed together throughout the contest. Kaleb O’Connor had 2 massive blocks that led to fastbreak points for his teammates.

The U16-1 Boys were impressive, winning 120-52 over Cougars 2s. The U16-2 Boys eclipsed the Perry Lakes Hawks 99-95. The Wolfpack had 8 players score 7+ points, lead by the 19 of Ezekiel Vose. The U16-3 Boys defeated East Perth 76-61. The U16-4 Boys lost 54-85 against the Eastern Suns.

The U18 Champs Men defeated Lakeside 92-65, sit solidly in 3rd place on the ladder. The U18-2 Men have won 4 of their last 5 and looked poised to make a finals push after outlasting the Eagles 83-76. U18-3 Men continue their undefeated season with a 107-86 victory over the Flames down in Rockingham. The U18-4 Men defeated Slammers 2s 79-71 with a great team performance. Tyler Hirt covered himself in glory with 6 triples on his way to a season-high 28 points.

The U20 Champs Men have now won 3 straight games with a 102-77 win over the Eastern Suns. That’s an impressive 2nd half to go from leading by just 1 to a margin of 25. The U20-2 Men are on a nice little 5 game winning streak of their own after dispatching the Hills Raiders 81-71. This team has been incredible in 2nd halves during the streak. This team plays with some real ENERGY and leaves it all out on the court.

The D-League Men had a top-of-the-table clash against the Willetton Tigers and jumped out to a 30-20 lead. The Wolfpack played well enough throughout the contest but gave up a big run to end the game, defeated in the end 101-114.
