WABL Recap – Round 12!

Wolfpack WABL teams played their round 12 games this weekend. As a collective, Wolves teams had a record of 21-15.

The U12 Boys had a 2-2 day. The U12-Champs Boys remain undefeated with a 9-point win over the East Perth Eagles. The U12-2 Boys played against the Redbacks team 1. They were up 33-27 at 3 quarters time, but had a tough 4th quarter offensively and were outscored by 14 to lose the game. Team 3 got a big 88-42 win over the Redbacks 2s, including a dominant 34-8 run in the 3rd quarter. Team 4 had a thriller. Unfortunately, they fell one point short and lost 53-52.

The U12 Girls went 3-1 on the day. The Champs Girls were playing the 10-1 second place Cougars and had one of their best games of the year in a thrilling victory that included a game winning score by Azalea Keating to put the team up 35-33 for the win. The Wolves are currently the 3-seed and in striking distance of passing the 2-seed Cougars in the coming rounds. Team 2 had a big win against East Perth, with a final score of 49-12. After a tied up first quarter, the Wolves rallied a 17-4 second quarter that put them on the way to a big victory. Team 3 lost to Warwick team 3 by a score of 42-28. Team 4 had a good 37-30 victory over Warwick’s team 3.

The U14 boys went 2-2 on the day. The Champs boys had a blowout win over Mandurah by a score of 96-36 and remain in the 1-spot on the ladder. Team 2 had a great 76-42 victory over Cockburn. Five players were in double figure scoring in a terrific team win. Team 3 lost to the top seed Suns by a score of 65-52. Team 4 lost a very close game to Suns as well, with an end score of 46-44.  

The U14 Girls had a perfect 4-0 day. The Champs team had an 18-point win over the Slammers. Team 2 got a great 18-point win as well. They move to 10-2 and in second place of division 2 a huge achievement seeing that they are currently ahead of four clubs’ champs teams on the ladder. Team 3, fresh off their Winter Classic championship, scored a 69-24 victory over East Perth’s 2s. Team 4 finished the sweep off for the age group, with a 44-37 victory over Eastern Suns Orange.  

The U16 Boys went 2-2. Team 1 got a big win against Warwick’s 1s by a score of 83-62. That gives the Wolves the tiebreaker for the number 1 spot on the ladder over this Warwick side. Team 2 had a very close one, but ultimately fell 5-points short against the Redbacks 2s. The Team 3 vs Team 4 derby was a terrific game. It was a competitive game throughout, but Team 3 had a consistent performance winning each quarter en route to a 19-point win.

The U16 Girls also went 2-2 also, in another age group that included a Wolves v Wolves derby game. The Champs team had a solid 9-point victory over Mandurah and solidly sit in the 2 spot on the ladder. Team 2 and 3 played each other and it was a great performance by team 3. They came out and dominated the first quarter entirely, getting a 25-8 lead and never looked back. While each of the next 3 quarters were more competitive, the lead grew steadily and Team 3 came home with the win. Team 4 lost to Slammers 3 by a score of 91-63.

The U18 Men were 2-2 on the weekend as the Wolves v Wolves derbies continued. The Wolves Champs team was missing multiple players, but that did not impact their results against Lakeside as others stepped up and the fill-ins from team 2 also contributed successfully. They won 92-65. Team 2 lost to East Perth by a score of 95-72. Team 3 and 4 played each other. Team 3 was undefeated and sat at the 1-spot on the ladder, and team 4 sat in the 3-spot. It was an incredible game and team 4 ended up handing Team 3 their first loss of the season, with a score of 71-65.

The U18 Women went 2-2 on the day. The Champs team lost to the Suns by a score of 81-56. Team played Team 3 in the final Wolves v Wolves derby game of the day. After a close first quarter, the game blew up in the 2nd quarter and Team 2 never looked back. It ended up a big win for Team 2. Team 4 had an outstanding win over the Hills Raiders Team 1. The end score ended up 52-46 and shows the continued improvement of Team 4.

The senior teams had a record of 2-2 on the weekend. The U21 Women beat the Redbacks by a score of 72-65. They move to 7-4 on the year. The D-League Women played in a Semi-Final playoff showdown against the Cockburn Cougars. It was a close game, but ultimately they fell short by 11-points, ending their playoff run. The 20 Champs Men had a 3 hit against them in the final 5 seconds to lose the game by 3. A tough finish and a big shot by Mandurah, their opposition. U 20 Team 2 continued their hot streak with another win, this time over Perry Lakes. Brayden Humphrey and Sam Malcom led the way in scoring, with 21 apiece, but Brayden Humphrey had an outstanding end stat line with 12 rebounds and 10 assists as well, resulting in the triple double.
