WABL RECAP – ROUND 14

Wolfpack WABL teams were back in action for Round 14 of the 2024 WABL season. There were many games that were close, which always amps up the pressure of these contests.

The U12 Girls had a tough results weekend with narrow defeats for the U12-2s, U12-3s and U12-4s. The Wolfpack U12-2s lost 34-44 to the Eastern Suns 1s. The U12-3s played entered the 4th quarter tied at 22 but lost the final quarter 3-10 to fall short 25-32. The U12-4s battled to try to overcome a 5 point halftime deficit but came up just short in the end, 27-30 against Redbacks 3s. The U12-Champs Girls had a convincing win over Senators 53-31.

The U12 Boys saw a couple of decisive victories over Senators. The U12-Champs Boys pushed their record to 11-3. After seeing an 11-point halftime lead cut to just 5 entering the 4th quarter, the Wolfpack dropped an impressive 23-12 final quarter to win 73-57. The U12-2 Boys decimated their Warwick counterparts 53-30 ad Dau Mabok was unstoppable on his way to 15 points.

In the U14 Girls our Wolfpack U14-4s came through with a clutch victory over Redbacks 46-43. Addison O’Shea and Eden Sweeney had 13 and 11 points respectively. The U14-3s held tough against Hawks in the 4th quarter to prevail 37-33. The U14-2 Girls lost a close, hard-fought game against Hawks 48-54. The U14-Champs Girls had a runaway win over the Mandurah Magic. Eli Leboeuf and Ruby Coolican each scored 10 points. Zoe French continued her impressive run with her 5th game in a row over 20 points, with 25 in this contest.

In the U14 Boys our U14-2 Boys used the 3rd quarter to provide some separation. Winning the 3rd quarter by 12 was instrumental in defeating Warwick 76-68, with Hayden Montgomerie mustering 28 points. The U14-3 Boys were able to come out on top of the flames 74-71 with Daniel Norberger knocking down a critical 3-pointer to extend the lead from 2 to 5 in the waning moments. The U14-4 Boys defeated Slammers 2s 66-52. Kobi Bunt had 6 of his 8 point in quick succession to start the 4th quarter for the Wolfpack. Dylan Gates and William Scott were the games leading scorers with 15 and 14 points respectively.

The U16 Girls were in action with the U16-4 Girls defeating the Eagles 62-52. Lucy Knights was the games leading scorer with 19 points and she was supported by Sydney van der Westhuyzen’s 14 points and Kiiana Nelson-Graham’s 13 points. The U16-Champs Girls jumped out to an early 20-5 lead over the Slammers on their way to a 77-37 victory.

The U16-3 Boys had an impressive 97-83 victory over Raiders 1s. Even at 45-45 at halftime, the Wolfpack wasted no time In the 3rd quarter, building a 7 point lead early that ballooned into a 16 point advantage entering the 4th. The U16-Champs Boys had their 3-game winning streak snapped, down in Bunbury. The match was close throughout, and despite only making 3 triples the Wolfpack held tough, defeated in the end 79-84.

In the U18 Women’s division, The U18 Champs had their work cut out for them with an early deficit 3-15. They battled back to take a 1 point lead at halftime, and had the game tied at 60 midway through the 4th quarter. Unfortunately some timely shooting for Flames kicked in and we were defeated 66-73. The U18-2 Green team played a tough Eagles opponent at HBF. Despite knocking down 9 three-pointers in the game, the Wolfpack lost 61-67. 

The U18 Men had some thrilling contests. U18-4 boys with a huge win 106-60. Daniel Andre Chapman had 16 points including 4 triples. Kai Walsh had a game-high 21 points. The U18-2 Boys found themselves knotted at 68 with less than a minute to play. Jake Feist got a critical offensive rebound and was fouled, calmly knocked down a pair of free throws. The Eagles team mad e huge corner 3 on the ensuing possession to snatch a 1 point lead. With 7 seconds to go the Wolfpack drew up the perfect play, unfortunately despite finding great balance under despair, the 3 pointer at the was just short, hitting the front rim and nearly bouncing in as time expired. Tough loss for our U18-2s. The U18-Champs Men won an exhilarating contest with the Rockingham Flames, 84-80. Evan Grinceri had a game-high 20 points. Lucas Kingswood dropped 3 triples on his way to 13 points, and Wieu Atuer was big in the middle managing 12 points himself!

The U21 Women continued their streak of impressive basketball, dispatching of the Eastern Suns 93-51. Hannah Duncan nailed 4 triples and Ananya Tushir cashed in 3 more. Well done girls!

The U20 Men split the weekend 1-1 with the Champs Men winning 119-76. Balanced scoring and quality guard play spear-headed the attack of the wolves as they jumped out a 17-point halftime lead and won every quarter, including 3 quarters by double digits.

It was a great weekend of High-Level Basketball and we look forward to more to come in Round 15!
