Wolfpack WABL teams played their round 3 games this weekend. As a collective, Wolves teams had a terrific 22-13 record.
The U12 Girls were back in action! Our U12 Champs team hung close through 3 quarters but were defeated in the end by a score of 29-54. An off game is permitted from time to time and we look forward to their next opportunity against Hill Raiders this week. The U12-4 Girls were trailing by 3 points heading to the 4th quarter and couldn’t get the critical baskets as they lost 20-29. Each of our U12-2 and U 12-3 teams were win 2 point games heading toward the final frame and unfortunately we suffered two more defeats by a combined margin of just 6 points.
The U14 Girls had a successful 3-1 weekend, with the U14-Champs winning against Willetton by a score of 45-34. The 11-point margin was earned in a 18-6 2nd quarter flurry. Nice Job Girls!!! The U14-2 Girls were successful in dispatched the Eastern Suns by a score of 50-41. Kiara Bomford-Hoath had a couple of impactful and-1s in transition. Kyona Nelson drained a 3 with less than 2 minutes to go in the game that gave the Wolves some margin in what was otherwise a nip and tuck contest. The U14-3 girls scored 22 2nd half points but were let down by a slow start, only managing 9 points by halftime in the 8:30am game in Bunbury. Next week they will host another team from Bunbury at 10:45am at Arena Joondalup. The U14-4 Girls had an interesting route against a quality Warwick Team. Tied at 11 to end the 2nd quarter, the Wolves put on a show, outscoring their opposition 27-15 in the 2nd. The 3rd quarter Warwick seized the momentum with a 17-4 run that put the Wolves down 1 entering the 4th. In the 4th, the Wolfpack came through with an incredible, clutch 15-6 run to win the game going way. NICE!!
The U16-2 were impressive in their efforts this weekend, winning on the road in Kalamunda 68-61. The rest of our cohort will look to bounce back after a tough weekend with the upcoming Round 4 matchups. The U16 Champs host Lakeside at 12:30pm this week. The 16-3 Girls will play at Willetton at 11:30am. The U16-4 Girls are headed down to Bunbury for a 2:15pm tilt.
The U18 Girls were 3-1 on the weekend with the U18-4s prevailing 63-40. The U18-3s defeated the Hawks 56-48 and the U18-4s won 52-46 on the back of some terrific transition offense.
The U21 Women won every quarter but the last on their way to a 52-42 victory over Warwick.
The U12 Boys were 3-1 on the weekend including a 49-39 win for the U12-4 Boys. The U12-3 Boys scored well throughout the game but gave up too many 1st half points. Trialing 30-50 at halftime, it was great to see the team take advantage of the opportunity and win the 3rd and 4th quarters by 2 and 3 points respectively. The U12-2 Boys were successful in their mission and beat Cockburn 55-41. The U12 Champs boys were victorious in overtime on the road against Willetton. Max Deric had a couple of clutch 2s and Jesiah Ochieng calmly knocked down critical free throws.
The U14 boys also boast a 4-0 record from the weekend. The U14-2 Boys defeated Warwick 69-58. Rui Machida was a menace on defense and got into the lane at will. Kobi Bunt was too strong a skilled in transition on his way to 2nd half basket after 2nd half basket. The U14-3 Boys notched their first win of the season, 57-49 against the Willetton Tigers. The U14-Champs Boys had a magnificent performance, jumping out a blistering 43-28 halftime lead that they were able to salt away in the 2nd half. Final score 73-55.
The U16 Champs Boys won 103-84 against Hills Raiders with 5 players in double figures, and 2 more at 8 points a piece. The U16-2 Boys lost a tough one 53-58 at home. They will look to bounce back against Perry Lakes at Bendat this week. The U16-3 Boys used suffocating defense to get out in transition on their way to a 106-87 win. The final margin did not indicate nature of the game as it was close throughout until the Wolves made a pair of 2nd half runs that proved to be too much. The U16-4 Boys played well against a quality Mandurah team, but lost the 4th quarter and the game by 3 points.
The U18-Champs Men took their first defeat of the season at the hands of Willetton, 78-81. The U18-2 Men dropped Perry Lakes 79-66. The U18-3 Men prevailed 71-65 over Willetton. One of the most spirited games of the day took place between our U18-4 Wolves Men and Warwick. The Wolves led by 9 at halftime but were outscored by 7 in the 3rd quarter. After a cagey first couple of minutes of the 4th quarter, the Wolves erupted behind a couple of huge momentum plays. Oli Toms knocked down a corner triple. Oli Toms backed that up with a massive blocked shot. And finally, after breaking free for a 13-point lead, Blake Carroll and Rhys Weir splashed triples of their own to push the lead up to 19.
The U20-Men fought hard but lost to the Cougars 65-78. The U20-2 Men were impressive through 3 quarters, and were tied with Warwick. Unfortunately the Wolves couldn’t keep pace in the 4th quarter and lost 71-78
Keep up the good work! 67-41 to start the season, good for a 62% win rate. It hasn’t been easy thus far and it won’t be going forward. Keep Growing!!
