Wolfpack WABL teams played their round 7 games this weekend. As a collective, Wolves teams had a terrific 22-14 record.
The U12 Champs Girls were victorious over Mandurah 52-44 in large part to successful pressure in the 2nd half of the game. With the win, the Champs Girls solidify their 3rd place status on the ladder at 5-2. The U12-2 Girls were defeated 27-29 after building a 22-12 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. With the loss to the top of the ladder Cougars, the Wolves seem poised for a strong 2nd half of the season. The U12-3 Girls were down 7-8 points early before stabilizing the game on their way to a 23-34 defeat. The U12-4 Girls lost 16-37 against a talented Willetton side. With a 3-4 record, the team sits in 5th in division 4, among quite a few team 2s and 3s.
The U12 Boys were 4-0 with wins all over the spectrum. The U12-Champs Boys jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the 1st quarter on their way to a 76-43 win. The U12-2 Boys defeated Mandurah’s top side 65-46. The team really looked to make the extra pass in transition and it paid off to a high degree. The U12-3 Boys established a 14-point lead towards the end of the 3rd quarter but credit to the Flames 2s for battling back to close the gap to just 1 in the waning moments. The U12-3 Boys were able to hold of the charge and prevail 50-48. The U12-4 Boys led wire-to-wire and defeated the Suns 2s 60-44. The U12-Champs Boys sit a 7-0 and atop their ladder. The U12-2 Boys move into a tie for 2nd place with a 5-2 record in Div2. The U12-3 sit a 2-5 with 2 losses by a combined 4 points; they make quality development and improvement week to week. The U12-4 Boys move to 3-4 and look to continue to climb the ladder as the season progresses.
The U14 Champs Girls won each quarter and took several charges against the Flames on their way to a 59-36 victory. The U14-2 Girls followed suit and won each quarter on their way to a 75-36 victory. The U14-3 Girls found themselves locked in a tight one, leading by just 5 points heading towards the 4th quarter before exploding with a decisive 24-7 run that put them over 62-40. The U14-4 Girls won each quarter against Raiders 2s to prevail 41-34. That’s a 4-0 weekend for you U14 Girls as they march their way towards the heart of the season with a combined 21-7 record.
The U14 Champs Boys kept it rolling with an 85-48 victory over Rockingham. In their next 3 games they will see Eagles, Warwick and Willetton. The U14-2 Boys fought hard but were undone by a 17-27 2nd quarter as part of their 64-71 defeat at the hands of Suns 1s. The U1403 Boys pulled off a quality win over Hills Raiders 1s, 69-56. The U14-4 Boys did well to stay close though halftime but were outscored by 13 points in the 2nd half on the way to a 40-64 defeat.
The U16 Girls had a 3-1 record on the day. The 16 Champs Girls were very impressive in defeating Cockburn 61-44 behind a 26-13 3rd quarter. The U16-2s continued their great patch of play with an 83-69 win over Mandurah. The U16-3s worked hard to establish a 10 point lead heading into the 4th, but were chased down by their Lakeside counterpart, losing 52-53 on the road. The U16-4 Girls were powered by an incredible 23-11 3rd quarter on their path to victory 69-60 over Hills Raiders.
The U16-1 Boys were impressive, winning each quarter versus their Mandurah Magic opponent, coming away with the 103-76 win. The U16-3 Boys went down at the hands of the Flames 78-87. The U16-3 Boys were able to put a 35-point win on the board as they continued their undefeated season, now at 7-0. The U16-4 Boys stabilized in the 2nd half but couldn’t eat into the 17-point deficit they faced at halftime, falling in the end 53-74.
The U18 Champs Women were defeated 50-82. The U18-2 Women dominated to win 93-43. The U18-3 Women were defeated 54-74. The U18-4s lost to Perry Lakes 45-73.
The U18 Men were 2-2 on the weekend. The U18 Champs Men fell 96-101 to the Cockburn Cougars. The U18-4 Men were defeated 73-82 as they were unable to overcome an early 11-pt deficit. The U18-2 Men continued their impressive season, notching another win, moving to 5-2 on the season and a share of 2nd place on the ladder. The U18-3 Men scored the first 16 points of the game on their way to a 92-65 victory over Senators.
The U21 Champs Women turned an 8 point deficit into a 6 point lead at halftime and never looked back, prevailing over Hawks 63-53. Janah Jabado was exquisite in transition. Jorja Montgomerie and Hannah Mortimer were each accurate from the perimeter and Isabella Hill was dynamic going to the basket in a critical stretch of the 4th quarter.
The D-League Men bounced back from their first defeat of the season to the tune of a 92-66 victory in Geraldton.
