WABL RECAP – ROUND 8

Wolfpack WABL teams were back in action for Round 8 of the 2024 WABL season this Sunday. Wolves teams recorded a record of 19 wins and 18 losses.

The Under 12 boys went 2-2. The Champs team had a competitive, tough fought win 61-55 against the Cougars. The win moved the boys past the Cougars who are now 3rd place, and puts the Wolves in 2nd place. Team 2 got an 8-point win over Mandurah, and remain undefeated on the year. They will face a fun test against 2nd place Willetton next week. Team 3 lost to Hawks 68-59. Team 4 had lost to Perry Lakes as well.

Under 12 girls went 2-2 on the day. The Champs team got a 53-28 win over the Cougars. They moved out of a 4-team tie, into sole possession of the 3rd place spot of the ladder with the win. A slow scoring start for Team 2 saw them drop the game against Magic 42-28. A similar poor 1st quarter start plagued team 3 as well and they fell short against Lakeside team 2. Team 4 had a big win against Hills 2, with the score ending up 46-12.

The Under 14 boys went 2-2 on the day. The Champs team got a 68-60 victory over Lakeside. The boys went into halftime down, but had a tremendous second half to control the game late. Team 2 lost 53-71 to Willetton. Hayden Montgomerie and Noah Growden had high scoring double-digit games. Team 3 had a thrilling comeback to win 67-63. They were down 10 going into the 4th and proceeded to win the 4th quarter 25 to 11. Team 4 had a tough 2nd quarter where the game slipped away just a bit, but stayed competitive throughout, in a loss to the Eagles, they are now tied for 2nd place on the ladder.

The Under 14 girls went 3-1 on the day. The Champs team had an exciting comeback win against Lakeside. With 5 min left, down 5, Emily Epple scored 3 straight buckets for the Wolves to take a 1 point lead, and then the game went back and forth from there. A score by Heidi Harris, and then 2 straight scores by Ruby Coolican ended up sealing the deal 62-59 with the Wolves finishing on a 14-4 run.

Under 16 boys went 2-2. The Champs boys had a loss to the Eagles. Team 2 had a close competitive game, but ended up falling 10 points short against the Cougars. End score was 86-76. Team 3 got a 74-67 win over the Suns. Aidan Kiely had a big 21-point outing. Team 4 had an overtime contest that finished as a 79-76 Wolves victory over the Redbacks.

The Under 16 girls went 3-1. The Champs team got a 19-point victory over Lakeside and rise into the top 3 on the ladder. Luca Kuhn and Grace Tomazin both had big games. Team 2 beat Willetton 57-48. In a close game, the Wolves won all 4 quarters and showed steady competitiveness and control of the game. Team 4 had a close 4-point loss to Warwick, and had some opportunities late in the game to make a push and take the lead, but just couldn’t get all the way over the line. Team 4 had a double overtime slugfest against Lakeside. They won 69-68. With multiple players fouled out on both teams, and double overtime, it ended up being a battle of fitness and fighting fatigue through the finish. The girls gritted it out and come up with a big win. Matilda Crowley hit a jumpshot that was the ultimate game winner in 2OT.

Under 18 boys went 2-2. The Champs team had a 10-point loss to Eagles. Team 2 had a tough 3-point loss to Willetton. Team 3 had a good 81-72 victory over the Magic. Hudson Rampling and Jack Goosen had big games of 18 and 20 points. Team 4 won by over 50 with many players scoring in double figures.

The Under 18 Girls went 2-2. The Champs team had a good 85-75 victory over Lakeside, and Mya Haley and Grace Gardiner both had big games. Team 2 had a loss against Willetton 1’s. Team 3 had a brilliant comeback winning the 4th quarter 18-6, but ultimately, they fell just short and lost 63-60 to a Slammers team that is 7-1. Jannali Nelson had a big game with 26 points. A very gritty performance by the team. Team 4 had a good 68-64 win over Suns. Emily Vukman had a big 18-point game.

The Under 20 Champs lost 61-77 to Lakeside. U20 Men team 2 lost to Magic by 20. The U21 Girls lost a tough one, 56-58. D-League Men had a bye, but D-League Women had a blowout win 96-55 over Suns.
