The Wolfpack were back in action for Round 9 of the 2024 WABL season. Tallying a total of 20 Wins.
The U12 Girls played tough basketball all weekend. The U12-Champs team fought valiantly but were defeated 26-41. The u12-2 Girls played into extra time with the Hill Raiders 1s, but alas, were defeated by a score for 44-47. The U12-3 Girls played well against their undefeated opponent that sits atop their division and took a 30-40 defeat. The U12-4 Girls played solid defense throughout their matchup with Eagles. Unfortunately, we were defeated 16-28 as we just couldn’t get our good shots to go down.
U14 Girls The U14-2 Girls had some solid performances. London Franceschi was stylish and effective as a ball handler. Amelia Franklin and Ella Sherwin played absolutely textbook defense, moving their feet and keeping the ball in front. Kyona Nelson had a nice scoring run on the interior to help closeout the first half with a lead. We were able to continue with momentum into the 2nd half and win 36-28, cementing our position of 2nd on the ladder. The u14-3 Girls prevailed 53-26 against Warwick winning the first half by a tally of 32-9. Kaila Dodunski was the games leading scorer and knocked down 3-pointer in the contest. The U14-4 Girls played a close and exciting game versus the Cougars. Down 4, at the start of the 4th quarter, the Cougars proved to be too much on the day as they found a late run to enable a 12-pt victory.
U16 Girls The U16 Champs Girls won 68-60 over the Warwick Chaps Girls. Grace Tomazin, Cameron Brown, Aisha Allen, and Lea Mirthil were a quartet of Wolves in double figure scoring. The Wolves are no entrenched in 3rd place on the ladder. The u16-2 Girls used a strong 2nd half to run away with a 87-60 victory of Eagles 1s. The wolfpack made seven 3s including three by Bethany Georgiu. The U16-3 Girls continued their streak of good play with a 67-42 win against Suns. We were able to establish a 34-14 halftime lead and never looked back. The win, pushes our record to 5-4 and tied for 4th.
U18 Women The U18 Women Green were successful against the Hawks to a tune of a 67-47 win. Anisa Hadji had a cadre of guest assistant coaches in Darien Huff, Peanut Tuitele, and Julia Chandler as the Wolfpack charged to victory. Beatrice Yu and Rhiannon Rowley did a great job of setting the table for their teammates. Ava Tomazin and Zoe Liesis provided an interior presence that was too much for the opposition. The win elevates us to 2nd place on the ladder.
U21 and D-League Women The U21 Women used some hot shooting to dispatch of their opponent, Hawks. Ananya Tushir rained down three 3s and Grace Gardiner, Kesiha Chng and Janah Jabada each splashed in 2 of their own. Janah Jabado was the games leading scorer with 20 points. Grace Gardiner had a single possession of 2 blocks that culminated with an assist as she found multiple ways to contribute to winning. The D-League Women lost their tussle with the Perry Lakes Hawks and now sit in 2nd place on the ladder.
U12 Boys The U12 Boys played bold basketball on the weekend. The U12-2 Boys took their first loss of the season but still sit atop the ladder in their division. The U12-4 Boys entered the 4th quarter tied at 27 with the Cougars 3s. The Wolfpack pulled away at the hands of a 19-5 scoring run spurred by the defense of Flynn Howe and Leo Wallace. The boys played with terrific pace and score many transition points in the final frame of the game. The win pushed the U12-4 Boys record to 5-4 on the season.
The U14 Boys The U14-Champs Boys were successful in their mission against Warwick. It wasn’t a standout quarter that was to credit, but rather a consistent commitment to quality basketball. Sandile Magaisa and Taj Peroomal had 15 and 13 points respectively. The U14-3 Boys found themselves in a tough and tightly contested game against Rockingham. Tied at 80-80 in the waning moments, Ethan Blood delivered back-to-back baskets to provide the final scoreline of 84-80 for the Wolfpack, what a game! The U14-4 Boys overcame the Perry Lakes Hawks to the tune of a 60-40 win. Dylan Gates was the games leading scorer followed by Kobi Bunt and James Fairhead.
The U16 Boys The U16-3 Boys used an aggressive form of 2-3 zone to spark a first half run that put them in control of the outcome against Senators Blue. Transition offense was a huge key in Coach Steve Simon’s side. The U16-3 Boys erased a significant halftime deficit with a 3rd quarter run of their own. Derek Deng and Marcus Bower each eclipsed 20 points but the Wolves lost by 6, 66-72.
The U18 Men The U18 Champs Men defeated Warwick 82-80. The key to success was a 12-pt halftime lead that the Wolves were able to hold onto. Each player played their part in the game and James Dalton had a nice 2-handed dunk driving baseline in halfcourt play. The U18-2 Men took overtime to defeat the Mandurah Magic, 78-74. With the Wolfpack trailing by 3 and 10 seconds remaining, Luis Pibworth was fouled on a 3pt attempt and calmly sunk all 3 from the charity stripe. In overtime, the Wolves put together possession after possession of quality execution on their way to victory. The U18-4 Men won the middle 2 quarter by a combined 35 points en route to a 114-72 victory over Hills Raiders 2s. Well done to coach Adrian Carroll.
The U20 Men and D-League Men The U20 Champs Men defeated Warwick 106-77 as the wolfpack seemed to be firing on all cylinders. Liam Young splashed in 2 triples on his way to 14 points and he was joined in double figures by 5 others from The Pack. The D-League Men won handily 116-76 in one of their more thorough and consistent performances of the season. That is good form for the team to find as they now sit at 3rd on the ladder, with finals looming in just 2 weeks.
