Saturday night at the annual BWA Awards Gala the Wanneroo Basketball Association was awarded the prestigious Association of the Year Award.
This is an award for the entire association. The award recognises our commitment to grassroots programs, domestic competitions, community engagement, player, coach and referee development, our NBL1 program, strategic planning, governance and operations.
“It is a great honour to receive this award and it says a lot about our association as a whole. We have a diverse basketball ecosystem from Aussie Hoops through to NBL1 and each and every part is as important as the next.
Obviously NBL1 gets a lot of external attention but this award shows that we are much bigger than just NBL1. I want to be clear, this is an award for the entire association. If you are involved in Aussie Hoops, a domestic club, WABL, refereeing, coaching, scoring, stats, a volunteer, on a club committee or a parent or fan, then this award is because of you; and it is for you. Thank you for everything you do to make us the best association.
We won the NBL1 Club of the Year in 2022 and two years later the Association of the year, it makes me proud to lead an organisation that has so much success at every level from grassroots to elite. We try to be innovative and lead the pack in everything we do. We are courageous and bold in our decision making and sometimes have to make the tough calls. We don’t always get it right but we always have the best interests of the association at heart and I am glad that has been recognised with the two highest awards possible in the last 3 years” said CEO Andrew Summerville.
