The Wanneroo Basketball Association – Joondalup Wolves regret to advise that Chief Executive Officer Andrew Summerville has resigned from his position to pursue an exiting new career opportunity. Andrew has accepted a role as General Manager of AUS/NZ for a global sports broadcasting company and will depart the WBA in the coming months.
Andrew has led the Wolves for nearly 7 years and has guided the club through a significant period of growth in terms of membership, revenue, commercialisation, business operations, facility management, and strategy. During his tenure the club doubled in membership size, improved its governance structure through policy and procedure implementation, added multiple external venues, increased its WABL participation and added significant programing from grass roots through to elite.
The Wolves NBL1 program has become recognised nationally as the benchmark in livestream views, commercial asset value, crowd attendance, and game night experience which is a testament to the work Andrew has done in that space.
Andrew’s advocacy and work in lobbying state and local government has seen over $3.5m in funding provided to the association and has been influential in securing the soon to be announced expansion in to a new four court stadium for the WBA.
The WBA was recognised as NBL1 Club of the Year in 2023 and 2025, and was awarded Association of the Year in 2024 during his time
Andrew Summerville had this to say about his time at the WBA:
“It is a bittersweet moment for me and it was an extremely difficult decision to make. I genuinely have enjoyed my time here and have loved every minute leading this great club. However, I feel now is the right time for me to accept a new challenge and equally it might be a good time for someone else to take the WBA to the next level. My impact on this club has been minimal compared to the thousands of people that make the association what it is. I was fortunate to lead a great club for 7 years, and the club will continue to be great long after I am gone.
I have loved being involved at every level from domestic, commentating grand finals, supporting our WABL teams, going on Dandenong trips, and hosting our NBL1 game nights. We have had some ups and downs, from COVID and the passing of club great Van Kailis, to leading the state and country in NBL1 game night experience. However, my fondest memories will be of all the people I have met and chatting to all the young up and coming players in our club.
There are far too many people to thank but I would like to make special mention of President Ryan Hunter and the members of the board both past and present for their support, for guiding the governance and strategy of the club and allowing me to deliver it. To the WBA office staff, no one will ever actually understand the incredible amount of work you all do and the hours you put in. It has been a pleasure to have been your CEO and thanks for being right there beside me on this journey.
Thank you to every player, coach, volunteer, referee, committee member, and fan, its been a ride and I will always bleed green………….. Go Wolves”.
WBA President Ryan Hunter added:
“Over the past seven years Andrew has driven significant growth for the Wolfpack and has delivered a professional experience that is unrivalled in our sport. Whilst Andrew’s departure will leave some big shoes to fill, there is no question that the association is in a better position than when he arrived. Andrew’s legacy won’t be forgotten as he has had a signifiacnt impact on the WBA. We thank him for everything he has done and wish him well in his future endeavours.
The Wolfpack continues to be a destination of choice, and it is fantastic when we can provide opportunities for our leaders to grow during their time with us and ultimately be rewarded with significant career opportunities. With such a recognisable brand it is only a matter of time before our people are presented with opportunities to advance their career. We will now start an immediate search to find our next leader of the pack – someone who has the drive, commercial mindset, and values that can continue to deliver on the Wolfpack Way.”
The WBA will commence the search for its new CEO immediately. Andrew will remain in the role to ensure a smooth handover and transition with minimal disruption to our operations.
