Wolves thank CJ Turnage after five outstanding seasons.
The Joondalup Wolves thank CJ Turnage for his outstanding contribution to the club, with the five-time Wolves MVP making the decision to end his contract and pursue a new chapter in his basketball career.
Turnage had been contracted for the 2027 season, but requested an early release. The Wolves have accepted his decision, supporting his desire for a change.
Reflecting on his decision, Turnage said he hoped a fresh start would help him move forward personally and professionally.
“It’s definitely no disrespect to the club or anybody, I’m just trying to make the best decision for my basketball career moving forward,” Turnage said.
“Life has been a little stagnant, and I’m just hoping a change can spark something for me.”
Turnage leaves a lasting legacy following five seasons with the Wolves from 2022 to 2026. Across 122 games, he established himself as one of the club’s most influential players and a much-loved member of The Pack.
His remarkable consistency earned him five consecutive Wolves MVP awards, alongside three NBL1 West All-Star Five selections and multiple Player of the Week honours. He also played a leading role in several successful finals campaigns, including the Wolves run to the 2023 Grand Final.
Wolves CEO Rob Kennedy said Turnage’s impact extended well beyond his performances on the court.
“It’s sad to see someone leave with the ability CJ has, but it’s the person off the court we will miss the most,” Kennedy said.
“He has been a much-loved part of The Pack, and I know I speak for everyone across our organisation and community when I say we truly thank CJ and wish him all the best in life and basketball.
Supporting our players’ will always come first. CJ has been honest with us about wanting a change, and we respect that decision and support him in taking the next step.”
While Turnage’s departure closes a significant chapter, Kennedy said the club remained focused on building a men’s roster capable of challenging for the 2027 championship.
“We’re actively working to strengthen our list, with the ambition of going two steps further than this season and bringing a championship home to the Joondalup Wolves,” Kennedy said.
“CJ ’s departure opens another position for us to recruit into as we continue shaping that team. You’re not going to find another CJ, he has made his own unique mark on this club, but we are confident we can put a championship-contending team on the court in 2027.”
The Joondalup Wolves thank CJ for five memorable seasons, his commitment to the club and the countless moments he shared with The Pack.
Thank you, CJ! You will always be part of the Wolves family 💚
