Coach Accreditation
At the WBA we aim to have all our coaches hold an official Basketball Australia Accreditation that is appropriate to the level of team or league they coach.
The Wanneroo Basketball Association in conjunction with Basketball WA conduct a number of State and Nationally accredited coaching courses during the year. These are designed to increase the number of qualified coaches delivering and teaching the game to our participants but also to help individual coaches progress in their own personal development and qualifications.
Coaching Accreditation Levels
- Community – Introductory course for coaches who coach in programs such as Aussie Hoops or beginner programs.
- Club – For coaches who coach at the Junior Domestic Club level.
- Association – For those wishing to coach at the WABL Representative level.
- Performance – Advanced course for coaches of State teams.
- Master – Honorary Accreditation for National Team coaches.
Community Coach
This is the introductory level course which is designed to cover General Principles of Coaching while encompassing basketball specific fundamentals and exploring the role of the coach. Candidates must be at least turning 13 years of age in the year of the enrolled course and no specific basketball background is required. Club coaches, parents, teachers, and secondary students with an interest in sports coaching are ideally suited for this course.
Suitable for first time coaches, newcomers to the sport, or experienced coaches wishing to begin their official accreditation journey, this course is a great introduction into coaching the sport we love. The course is FREE.
